I love this laptop, I had to replace my old Dell Inspiron 6000. This one's so much faster, it's got a decent video card (not hardcore for gamers but enough to watch media with real well and even can handle some top divx10 games with really low fps in the low setting), which is why I chose this laptop over a bit faster intel pentium's out with a bit smaller screen for around the same price range. The bonus for this satellite, for me, was the video card along with the extra wide 17.3'' screen. It's pretty stylish and very lightweight too, even smaller then my old inspiron.

Toshiba Satellite L555-S7916 17.3-Inch Laptop - Black/Grey Features

  • 2.1GHz Intel Core2 Duo T6500 Processor
  • 320GB Serial ATA Hard Drive, DVD SuperMulti Drive
  • Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit)
  • 17.3" LED-Backlit Display

WOW - Nathan Ayers - michigan
I love the toshiba satellite line. They are simply the most economical, with the least repair rate, and the most computer. Bought this system for my in-laws @ Xmas who are in love. I spent the same amount for myself last year for a smaller screen, less options, and not quite as pretty. Wish I had simply bought two of them.

Piece of garbage - Linda Lennon -
Please don't buy, you will not be satisfied. I have bought HP products for years, but I have had trouble with the last two laptops from them. This one being the worse. I have had trouble from the first month I've had it. It would not power up, took it back to the store and they took the battery out and put it back in and said they didn't see anything wrong with it.(like we're nuts) Then it happened again so we called HP support and they wanted us to take the computer apart to get to the hard drive, I finally told them that was not my job but it was theirs, they finally let me send it back to HP and it was returned 10 days later as being repaired. Not so fast, still doing the same thing only this time I am getting an over heating warning and it completely shutting down. And yes it still goes dark. Hp is fast becoming the Toyota of computers. My suggestion is to buy another brand not associated with HP. That is what I am going to do if I can ever get out of this mess. I have only had this since Nov. 2009 and should not be having problems with it, but even more that that Hp should be willing to let us trade them in, but they are not willing to work with you. Getting ready to send it back again and I'm sure I will be sending again and again in the future!!!

It has served me well the few weeks I have had it now. The wi-fi is keeping me connected as I'm typing this from a hotel room. The processor is nice and fast. There are four high-speed USB connections. The unit is solidly built (perhaps a mite heavy).

My only criticisms are as follows:

The screen resolution doesn't look quite as sharp as on my desktop monitor. I'd say, maybe 85% as sharp, so it's usually barely noticeable. The other thing is that the soundcard doesn't have all the mixer capabilities you might expect to find in a desktop. I don't know if this is common in laptops and I sort of stumbled upon the issue. But I got around it by purchasing an external mixer from the Guitar Center.

I initially intended it only as a travel companion but have since begun using it in my recording studio (with Cakewalk Music Creator). Oh, and to play SimCity (which doesn't work on Vista!) All in all, I am quite satisfied with it.

The seller shipped it out immediately and it arrived by FedEx or UPS (I forget which) in a matter of days (two or three, as I recall -- it was quick).

It stop working after three months - Shalon Montgomery -
The laptop ran decently for the three months I had it then one day I came back from class and it wouldn't come on.The only thing I download to that laptop was Anti-Virus software.I took it to a computer repair shop today and they told me that there was nothing they could do to make it come on. The company I bought this laptop from should give me my money back.

I bought this for reference use on a recent road trip. Most inns offer wifi but rarely have a lobby computer anymore. We constantly used it for finding a nice restaurant and reading [...], Google directions, checking email occasionally and generally research points of interest while travelling. Most McDonalds have free wifi too, if needed on the road. It is lightweight and very handy, has a clear screen and phenomenal 8+ hrs battery life. Charged it only occasionally. Windows 7 is more than up to the task, I opted for the 2Gb ram chip. The keyboard, naturally, takes getting used to if you are used to a full size desktop, but typing should be minimal while on vacation anyway. I didn't experience the "vibration" problems of a previous reviewer. Speakers are kind of tinny, but what do you expect for a tiny computer, home theater quality? Used earphones for music. Highly recommended for what we needed it for.

We bought this little gem to take on a 2 week car trip. It is fabulous. I use an imac at home but have used a pc before so there was no getting used to it. I purposely got the unit with windows xp as the reviews were not favorable for me for windows 7. The thing goes for over 9 hours (no kidding) on the 6 cell battery. It picks up wireless from the motels with ease.

Piece of junk!!! - A. Tanner - Colorado
The first time I turned on the computer it worked great. I turned it off and when I tried to start it again it went to the DOS screen and said it needed a boot disk in order to start up. Since I didn't have a boot disk I finally hit ctl-alt-del and it booted right up. I thought this might be a fluke but I turned it off and on several times and got the same stupid request on the DOS screen. I sent it back!!!

I wanted a tablet to draw on and this is a good one. Does not support pressure sensitivity (which is fine for my uses) and I could not successfully use a WACOM tablet plugged into it for some reason, probably driver compatibility issues. Is lightweight and sturdy, and has occasional slowdown but it acceptable. The built in wi-fi saved my bacon a couple of times! I wish I could figure out a way to disable some of the buttons on the screen though.. where I normally grab it usually activates the dvd theatre thing. I am too lazy to investigate further.

Battery life is fine.

Great Design; shame about HP's lack of support - R. J. Battersby - E'bourne, SSX, UK
I think most everything's been said here about this seductively designed tablet PC. Its style, features and pricing lure you into buying it but when you get it home, you find that its beauty is skin deep.

- It runs slowly
- It runs HOT - Ouch!
- The battery (that doesn't suffer memory problems) most certainly does
- The SD card reader latching mechanism has broken - see below
- The Digital Persona fingerprint security software is poor - see below

SD CARD READER - I could be sarcastic here and praise HP for inventing such an innovative device. Wow! An SD card reader? How DID they do that? But I won't because we all know they're incorporated in their squillions on everything from cameras and phones to digital recorders and - er - PCs where they serve reliably - often outdoors in harsh conditions - for years. Pity HP didn't choose a reliable SD Card reader. The latching mechanism on mine (and that of many others according to research) failed on probably the 5th time I'd used it. The card just pops back out. You can hold the card in against a spring strong enough to stop a Shuttle launch but after a few seconds, your finger-end goes dead (apart from having to operate the keyboard with only one hand). And HP just doesn't want to know...

DIGITAL PERSONA - The fingerprint reader is pretty slow and usually takes three or four attempts on cold boot but usually only one attempt thereafter. Strange.

But after about 4 weeks from new, a CRITICAL UPDATE Warning came up saying that I MUST update the Digital Persona software to maintain security. So I followed their hand-led instructions and guess what? The new software was a chargeable upgrade. So much for CRITICAL; it wasn't CRITICAL to me. Maybe it was CRITICAL to Digital Persona's bottom line?

Even then, I was suckered into buying it. And guess what? The installation stopped mid-way with a message that it was incompatible with my version of Windows. Now I haven't changed Windows. My HP TX is strictly OE. Don't Digital Persona know who they're marketing their CRITICAL updates to? Seems not.

But unlike HP, after I had sent them a CRITICAL email, a Digital Persona director not only issued me with compatible software, they refunded the cost of my original upgrade purchase. They come out of this smelling of roses.

OVERALL? I wouldn't buy another HP product. If HP cuts corners on quality, they should be prepared to stand by their product in the afterservice. They don't.

IT SUCKS! - Salem Harake -
I had to reinstall Windows XP 6 times. I sent it to HP twice. This netbook sucks just like all the other netbooks. Just buy a 13 inch laptop. That is what i did and it is much better than a netbook.

I've had two Asus notebooks prior to purchasing this. One of them is around 5-6 years old and still working fine, albeit slow. The other one is around 1-2 years old and working very well. Because of the notebooks great performance, I decided on getting this netbook although it's much pricier than most netbooks.

It is not a perfect netbook. It has a lot of shortcomings but it does have some great features. I love the touch screen. You have to figure out how you should adapt your writing in such a way that you're not going to end up messing up your notes. It is not the most sensitive thing in the world but that's what I get for the price I paid. Remember, tablet PCs go for more than a thousand dollars. Also, you can't disable the multi-touch feature for all platforms. You can only disable it for windows journal and sticky notes (It's called IntelliWriting). It's weird why Asus did that.

Anyway, I also love the weight. It's very light and so convenient to carry around. Yes, the keyboard is tiny but what do you expect right? I have small hands so I can manage. You just have to adapt with the smallness of the netbook. At least it's only 2 lbs. That's definitely a plus for me. :)

The 1 GB RAM is something I had to upgrade. I tried it out for 2 weeks but it was a little bit hard to use a lot of programs at the same time. Upgrading to 2GB made it so much better.

Probably the worst feature of this netbook though is its 32 GB hard drive space. It is not enough. A lot of it is dedicated to Windows 7 and other necessary programs. I bought an 8GB SDHC (well, its a part of the package with the 2GB RAM upgrade) to expand the drive but it didn't make much difference. You're probably better off with a 32 GB SDHC.

I think I've said enough. All in all, this is a recommended netbook. :)

Quite similar to the previous D250, but every change is an improvement from my standpoint, and the price is still unbeatable. Swapping in a higher-capacity SODIMM and a higher-capacity hard drive couldn't have been easier. Upgrading to a real (not Starter) version of Windows 7 was no trouble at all, and the OS runs well. Bluetooth works well, and on this model it's activated by a hotkey.
No one mentions the outboard charger, but this model's is a worthy feature: it's small and light-weight, with a thin cord AND a plug attachment that rotates 90 degrees.
The only thing I'd change? The glossy finish on top is a fingerprint magnet.

A couple of months ago I decided to upgrade from my toshiba satellite laptop. I was going to buy another toshiba until I came across this during my research and decided this laptop was the best bang for my buck. What do I like about it? Everything!! I love the large memory and the 320g hard drive is double of my toshiba. I don't regret jumping from toshiba brand to sony. The built in webcam and microphone are great. They work perfectly with aim, yahoo, and skype. I was easily able connect to my wireless router without reinstalling the software. The only downside is the battery. I will be ordering a large capacity battery soon. I can't wait hook up my sony hd camcorder and start editing my home videos. I would definitely recommend this laptop to friends.

After a couple first generation EEE PCs that soon showed how cheap they really are, and an Acer a150 (8.9" model) that died after 4 months, I found myself netbook shopping once again. I was NOT going to get another acer. But after looking at all of them, trying them out whenever possible, the acers were the only ones I was compatible with. That 8.9" acer was a great little computer until it didn't turn on one day. I could have sent it back for repair, but got lazy and let the warranty run out. I bought this particular model because it had XP. I'm sure Windows 7 is lovely, but I really like XP.

This computer has been awesome! So light, and very thin. The bigger (than the 8.9") screen makes a huge difference, I didn't realize it would. I often forget that I am using a netbook. I don't see why people keep saying netbooks are slow and underpowered. I have no problems, programs open quickly, music is smooth, internet is fast (especially after I switched from IE to google chrome). Although, streamed videos are slightly choppy at times, but I can deal with that, I don't stream much anyway.

I highly recommend this to anyone.

hard drive, fan, AND motherboard went within 7 months! - Griselda Harp -
This is the worst computer I have ever owned. The hard drive, fan, AND motherboard went within 7 months of my purchasing it. I sent it back to Acer (at my expense) they "fixed it" and sent it back several weeks later. It worked for literally 15 minutes and then crashed again- wouldn't even turn on. It was finally fixed after the second trip back to Acer- but now for some reason the touchpad- which was always really bad- is even worse than ever. It skips, sticks, won't scroll properly, and makes the text suddenly larger or smaller for no reason. If the cursor is accidentally moved too slowly over an add or link it automatically goes there without even clicking the touchpad! Do not buy this computer- the only thing good about it is it's small portable size. It is obviously cheap for a very good reason. Save yourself a giant headache and spend a little more money to get a better computer.

This is now previous generation model. I got it for well under 0. I still highly recommend it.

BTW, I upgraded mine to 2gig.

Pros
* Excellent lcd color and brightness
* Best in class netbook keyboard. Similar to apple's chiclet keyboard. Nice feel and keydepth for the smaller than standard key. Really like arrowpad layout.
* Feels quite durable
* I actually like how 6-battery sticks out the back, acts as a handle to hold on to when using the computer, standing up draped over your forearm.
* Neato HDD shake protection with 3D sensor. When you shake it the hard drive moves the arm to safe area. You can watch hdd applet shows the hard drive arm and orientation as you rotate the netbook.
* Good wifi range. I get noticeably better wifi signal detection on this than my other laptops.
* Big touchpad (note in cons, bottom touchpad unusable)
* Lighted power button below screen acts as keyboard light (which could also be a con, I like it)
* I like startup/shutdown time, less than half minute -- first time it may be slower, as windows 7 configures the system. 5 second sleep/wake time.
* Includes bluetooth, which is no longer included in current gen

Cons
* Tiny single speaker. Out of the box, it's only ok for windows beep noises. You can make it usable loud by turning on "loudness equalization" from control panel>Sound settings>Realtek HD driver
* touchpad is not usable at the bottom 3/4 inch. It looks and feel likes touchpad, but your scrolling and pointer will just stop before touching the buttons. A shame, that the touchpad isn't as big as it looks.
* no multitouch touch pad that current gen touchpads support. But AFAIK, Windows 7 starter does not support multitouch anyway.
* typical bloatware. chuck it.
* no screen rotation. I could not find a way to activate hardware screen rotation to use it vertically like a ebook reader. I tried registry hack, freeware hardware rotation util, googling, nothing. I wonder if linux intel drivers are capable of rotation? Anyway, as a satisfactory work around I use foxit pdf reader and fbreader ebook (epub) reader, both of which have software screen rotation and full screen feature that makes this an ebook reader (nb: can't read drm books).
* No wifi N. But when would you really want to use N speed on a netbook? Not like you are going to be hard core gaming or streaming HD videos to it.
* How do I create and restore system backup without DVD? I'm hoping I can do it from a usb stick.

Misc
* Windows 7 Starter is fine by me. The main complaint seems to be about lack of wallpaper customization. Big whoop. When I'm working on my laptop I'm not looking at my wallpaper. I put the picture gadget to put in the center of the desktop. If you want to use it as a digital photo frame, use the photo screensaver. Done.
* Non HD videos only. All my 720x480 DVD and TV shows run fine. Once you get to 720 line videos (which won't fit on a 600 line screen anyway), the CPU is chocking. Goes without saying, serious gaming is a no go.
* Battery life around 6.5 hours, I'm a heavy user, using lots of multimedia, loaded 10 programs. I upgraded 2gig, bright screen.
* Charge from 5% to 100% in 4 hours.
* Suspend mode uses 1 watt. Normal use is 10 to 15 watts. Except when I transport it, I usually keep mine on suspend mode instead of shutting down.
* For videos I downloaded the CCCP codec/video pack

Note
* Upgrade your webcam software from panasonic support site. It's much better.
* Upgrade HDD driver from Panasonic support site, the machine shuts down faster

The sound does not work - Gerald Isaacson - Somerset, NJ USA
I bought this netbook for travel. Got the extra memory and separate optical drive as well. I set up the rescue disks, loaded Office, and went off on a six week trip to Asia. The first time I used the netbook, I noticed that there was a problem with the sound. The internal microphone was always "on" and sending room and even keyboard sounds to the puny speaker, creating feedback and noise. The only way to stop it was to turn off the speaker. Plugging in a headset to use Skype revealed another problem. The audio software noticed that an external mic and headphone were attached. But no sound from the mic got into the computer. I bought another headset, thinking there was a problem with the microphone on my original headset. Same problem. The Toshiba on-line forums were no help. Many people complained of the problem but there were no solutions. I reinstalled the audio drivers. Same problem. I called Toshiba and the technician had me restore the original operating system. After that 3 hour ordeal, the original problems were still there. Now Toshiba wants me to return the defective unit to them, at my expense, so they can try to repair it. While I was drawn to this unit because of its lightness and long battery life, in reality it has turned out to be a big letdown. Toshiba shipped me a defective netbook but I have to pay to return it to them. This was my second Toshiba laptop. It will be my last.

I go to an online college and was using a laptop for this. I was getting tired of how heavy it is, bulky and HOT, oh, so dang hot! I asked a few people what their thoughts were on getting a netbook and got several different opinions (don't get this brand, get an iPad [for my school?? what??], don't get a netbook at all). I got two opinions which was to get this netbook. I only need it for school and for email. I want to be able to take it with me to where ever I want to go without carrying 50 pound laptop [exaggerating]. Of course some people still think online college isn't a real college... ugh.

The keyboard is nice. I found that the small reduction in percentage is not that big of a deal. My husband hates it, saying it's way too small for him... yet, he still uses it. Hmmm.

Start up was good. However, I did have issues with it networking to my router. I reduced security on the router a tad after so many troubleshooting efforts failed. That worked! I'm not a networking expert, though I do have some knowledge. It took me two days to figure that out.

Battery life hasn't been an issue. It goes all day from morning until I go to sleep. I plug it in right before bed and it gets about 8 hours of uninteruppted charge, which is good for the battery.

I find that it is a little slower than my laptop. I posted one of the gagets of RAM usage on my desktop to see about what it uses in physical memory, seems it stays around 47%. I try not to open too many applications for it to go any slower. I will look at upgrading the RAM here in a few months. I'm not really complaining since I knew what it came with, so I am just adding to discussion.

I found it pretty cheap at Walmart. I also did quite a bit of research on other comparable units made by different manufacturers. HP/Dell/Sony... the list goes on. They were way overpriced! This was very reasonable for what it does, plus I get a deduction on my taxes for being a student purchasing an item that is used for my studies. It is a win-win.

One little gripe is the Microsoft key is not working out for me. I am going to do a fix on this and see how that turns out. Lucky for me, my sister is an AF communications airman... so she can help out with me on this.

All-in-all, I am happy with this purchase and would love to give it 4.5 stars.

Windows 7 Starter Version ruins this machine - Meya -
After originally really liking this Netbook, imagine my surprise that it cannot be connected to our local network running 2 XP computers and a Vista machine. You must have full blown Windows 7 to connect.

This makes this netbook very much crippled for most users. You can't even change the wallpaper without a hack.

This one is going back so I can get one that is running XP. It's too bad too, because this one looks nice, the keyboard is great, the battery life is great, and the setup was very easy.

Shame on Microsoft for using a crippled OS.

Purchased this computer a few weeks ago for my son who is heading to college and we have been very happy with it. Sleek, responsive, and able to handle gaming and media applications with the well-above-average video card, memory, display and processor combination. All for under 00.00? Impressive. A fingerprint magnet, which bothers some, but is not a big deal to me. Battery life is average compared to the other laptops I have owned, but acceptable, and I am confident, but admittedly have not looked, that an aftermarket upgrade at battery is available. I have seen complaints that it runs hot, but have not experienced that, at least not hotter than any other laptop with a dedicated video card running during intensive applications and certainly not uncomfortably so. The fan is partially blocked by the monitor, but does its job, and for long sessions of gaming I would recommend a secondary cooling device for any laptop. I have also seen at least one review indicate that the video card was not good for gaming, but other independent reviews of the specific card and pc configuration, and my own experiences, refute that, this pc was built with demanding gaming in mind, while not sacrificing portability or versatility.

I have only one beef with the purchase. Amazon no longer price guarantees its products. This machine dropped in price .00 shortly after I purchased it (within a week). I still had it, unopened, and contacted Amazon about a price credit, and was basically told to pound sand. The most frustrating thing about that was I could have simply returned it for a full refund under the 30 day return policy for unopened computers, and bought another one at the new price, discounting my price savings by the 15 dollars or so in return shipping costs (I do not think the return policy covers that), and when I pointed that out to Amazon, I was invited to go ahead and do that. To me, it appeared Amazon was effectively banking on the fact that I would not go through such hassle for such a "small" savings. And they were correct, but only because I did not want to be empty handed for my son's 18th birthday. So they won my business with a good price on a great machine, but lost my respect as a company for such poor customer service. I make many internet purchases, and absent a serious reason to do so, will not be shopping at Amazon in the future.

EDIT REVIEW - after I wrote this it got me worked up all over again so I contacted Amazon a second time and low and behold I was given a 35 dollar credit! While they deserved the smack on the nose with a rolled up paper they got for how I was treated the first time, they likewise deserve a treat and an attaboy for eventually doing the right thing. Amazon you have won back my business.

If you use iTunes, don't bother with this - Sam -
I have had nothing but problems trying to use iTunes and sync my iPhone with this laptop. Of course, Dell blames Apple and Apple blames Dell. In the end, who loses? The consumer. Don't waste your money on this.

I purchased a U120 for myself but my wife took it over. I purchased a U135 as a replacement. My only disappointment was the reflective screen. I upgraded Windows 7 to the Pro level without problem. Battery life is good!. The only issue is that my Yahoo email server complains that it needs 1024 x 768 resolution for optimum performance, but I see no problems with this.

Sony VAIO VPC-W211AX/P 10-Inch Pink Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life

The first impression is its nice appearance. I've never had any netbooks before but this product from sony is quite satisfactory. The speed is acceptable. Still some people argued with the windows 7 starter edition but I would say it's designed for light computing and web surfing and it actually does a good job on these things. If you are looking for a second pc (or laptop) and this one might fit your need. However if you expect it for primary use then it might disappoint you. To share my personal use, I have a mac desktop at home and that serves as my primary computer. And when I go outside I only bring this little tiny creature with me. As long as the internet access is available I can always connect back to my home desktop and use some remote desktop to do whatever heavy tasks on the main computer. And if you really dislike windows, I'd recommend you to try ubuntu, a free linux os. I'm currently having dual systems on this vaio and honestly I'm on ubuntu most of the time. The system interface is neat and very efficient in doing those less heavy things. Also if you're worried about whether one GB RAM is enough to run win 7, using ubuntu can definitely be a nice alternative.

Buyer Beware: Flimsy Junk - Dr. R. W. Mehler - Los Angeles, CA
More flimsy junk from Sony. They used to be a good company but now produce expensive landfill material.

Beware: Sony is very very stingy about fixing their flimsy junk under warranty. They do not stand behind their products like better companies. Also note that when trying to contact customer support, they ONLY provide a phone number, no email or even street address, and they will NEVER put anything into writing. When your Sony trash fails, all that happens is endless circular conversations with useless minimum-wage customer service children who have no authority to do anything.

Only buy this or other Sony junk if you enjoy burning hundred dollar bills.

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-VU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 8.5 Hour Battery Life

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-VU1X-BK 10.1" has a great form factor and might be good for browsing the internet, watching streaming videos, playing slide shows at restaurants, and reading email. A 10" netbook, IMO, is better suited for those who mostly consume web content, and don't need to use the keyboard often. I purchased the net book to use when I travel, which is only a couple of times a year. I took my net-book on one flight, and found it frustrating to get any work done with the small keyboard, and the poor performance of the track-pad. My net-book ended up just sitting on my shelf so I sold it.

PROS:
+Battery Life is excellent
+Hybrid Engine Utility is nice to have
+Nice Display

Cons:
-Track Pad
-Track Pad is really crappy
-Noisy Fan (this is to be expected on net-books this size)

Suggestions:
If you want something to use in bed, consider a laptop with a back-lit keyboard.
If you need a mobile PC for business, get a 15" laptop instead.

ASUS Eee PC - fine59 - Dunnellon, Florida USA
Very nice product does everything it's supposed to do well.
Really handy for traveling as it is about half the size of a regular laptop. Good battery life 8.5 to 10 hours depending on use.
Did not come with a manual but it was easy to find it on line.

MSI Wind U100-843 10-Inch Black Netbook - 5.5 Hour Battery Life

Cons: -one of the rubber feet fell of, no big deal as the six-cell battery tilts and lifts it forward w/its own rubber feet.
-screen is not really vibrant in colors, msi says its a led screen, though i would have expected more quality since led tv are the latest rage. compare to the acer i was looking into, the acer has the upper hand on screen quality.
-lots of bloatware, I would add/remove and clean up through msconfig first (btw download the wifi update a.s.a.p.)
-Be patient, playing vids on youtube for example require some wait, though it was really not a media pc in the first palce to be honest.
-Keyboard a little awkward (its a netbook, part of the trade off) especially the arrow keys, too thin, overall minor complaint as it reviewed as one of the best netbooks keyboards. just nit-picking ;)
-MEMORY UPGRADE - This was my biggest complaint. Every laptop I have own had a separate compartment door that would allow easy access to memory banks for quick upgrade only requiring the removable of 1 or 2 screws. BE WARNED the u-100 actually requires removal of the whole under cover AND there is one screw hole that is covered by a void warranty warning if tampered sticker(which seems to be a the lamest warranty void warning i have seen). Obviously, MSI says that customers need to take to an authorized msi location to have the upgrade done. I dont want to spend more, so I, just like many other msi netbook owners, have just went w/ dyi. it was tricky but not too challenging. I dont recommend this to anyone who has never worked under the hood of any pc (laptop or desktop). The whole process seems like an accident waiting to happend to damage anything under there. It took a second attempt to have the new stick recognized. its funny how they offer a bundle w/ an addtl memory stick. She runs faster and smoother now.

pros: -runs faster and smoother than my 15" xp (remove junk software and if possible dyi memory, 1gb max, novice would be advised to consult w/ someone who has great pc hardware knowledge)
-Wifi (again, hookup through lan and get the update) is excellent
-The six-cell batt does not protrude the back like some other netbooks, MSI did a nice job of making it portrude down and thus tilts it up and forward, nice little detail for your wrists comfort. also, the excellent Case Logic LNEO 10 bag holds it w/ a little room to spare.
-Light weight, just under 3 lbs
-batt last a little over 5 hrs. there is a nice msi wind community site that might provide some tweeks to make it last "6 to 5.5 hrs", too busy right now to check that out.
-exhaust was traditionally placed to the side (left side for this one), acer placed it @ the bottom...no thank you.
-Nice little touch, a magnifier, comes in handy.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Even though I have placed a lot of cons, I my opinion, it is definitely worth the 5 stars. it does everything you would need from a netbook, its working great for school (I hear a lot of whispers and pointing when I take it out in class, some students are lugging around 15 and 17 inchers, they must love the work out, lol), the small footprint easily sits on those lecture rooms w/ the swivel up "desktop" (i call them cutting boards), it runs all my office apps w/ no biggie, plays all my music. Bottom line, it has the performance and price that I was expecting. This msi definitely won me over the acer and much more pricier offerings from asus, samsung, dell, and hp. Plus msi offered a great rebate on this too! Thanks for checking out my blab-review.

Great Performance / Great design / long battery - Arriola Martinez Federico Alej - New York, NY United States
I'm very happy with this netbook , I have windows 7 and Debian installed in the netbook , it is running very well, good performance, and the battery last about 4-5 hours , the other great feature is that I bought a 24 inches monitor and the resolution that the netbook provides the optimal resolution for the monitor which is great with 1920x1080.

The keyboard size is one of the best you can find for the netbooks, for me is still little but once you get use to it, you won't have any troubles.

the only downside is that I don't like the touchpad , but I solved this problem buying a wireless mouse.

I recommend buying this computer.
