I loved it from the first time I got it.
This is a perfect size for me, Does everything a notebook or a netbook does but much smaller. Keyboard is very easy to use and the pen works great with XP Tablet PC Operating system. This will also run Vista and I think Windows 7 drivers are also available.

OQO 1080207-US Model 02 5" Ultra Mobile PC UMPC - Sprint Features

  • Included accessories - Standard lithium-ion polymer battery, universal power supply, replaceable screen protector
  • 1.6GHz VIA C7M ULV processor
  • VIA VX700 with integrated GPU graphics chipset

Has become dissapointing since it was purchased two years ago. - Anonymous - United States
Quite sadly, this has become one of the most regrettable purchases we've made.
Two years old and ,700 for the base unit dressed out with the Sprint card and since then:

-- OqO charges you full price (0 in 2007) for the CDMA card as if were a customer unwilling to sign a cellular contract, BUT SPRINT STILL REFUSES TO ACTIVATE THE CARD WITHOUT A TWO YEAR COMMITMENT !!! Since the card can't be officially swapped it is unlikely you'd switch carriers or disconnect the monthly WWAN service but it is criminal to pay full price for cellular gear then screwed for the same two year commitment other customers who received their Pantech card or USB data cards for subsidized / free. The WWAN bandwidth has become substandard in the last two years of ownership and a Blackberry phone on the all you can use plan is faster than OQO's embedded Sprint card.

-- Crappy warranty service, a device this small will invariably become dropped, the majority of people will drop their cell phone at least once and the OQO is no exception. It will split like an egg even if it is "protected" by the OQO Stronghold case which is anything but strong. which leads to the next topic....

-- Larcenous damage protection, every OQO should be protected with the optional 0 damage warranty for owner mishaps such as the inevitable drop...but their tech support group will make you jump through as many hoops as a wise Latina judge seeking a lifetime appointment before honoring it.

OqO's are hard to justify compared to a sub 0 netbook especially if you already have a data modem and BT capable cell phone to use instead of the embedded CDMA card. Even a cheap netbook can be WWAN equipped with a free USB modem for the same monthly price and same two year commitment the OqO is getting screwed out of.

I did some research on laptops for good reviews and this laptop had really good reviews.
I was going to get a Dell Inspirion 15, but after doing some research, I settled on
this Samsung 530. So far, I have found nothing that I do not like about this laptop.
I love the dark red color for a change. The keypad is very easy and comfortable to use.
The wide screen is nice and the graphics etc. show up so clearly and bright. It is quite
a solid and well built computer as far as I can tell. It is lighter than my old Dell which
will help when traveling through airports, etc. Just an all around good laptop for me and
my uses and for the price I wanted to pay. The price on Amazon was the cheapest I could find.
I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Think twice before buying this or any Samsung Laptop/Notebook - P. Ortiz-Villajos - Charlotte, NC
I bought this Laptop for my wife 3 months ago. She absolutely loved it until a misterious "internal crack" appeared on the screen last week which made it unusable.
I opened a repair request with Samsung and sent the unit to the repair location specified by Samsung. I thorughly inspected the unit to see if it had any signs of damage to the case or the screen. Everything looked perfect. No damage of any kind.
After 2 days, I received a call from the repair shop telling me about the internal crack. They stated that this happens "very frequently" with Samsung Laptops and Notebooks. Even the slightest pressure on the outside cover can damage the screen. All the exercise this laptop gets is when we open and close its lid in order to use it. We don't take it on trips or even move it from its location at my wife's desk. She even kept the plastic protector that came on the outside of the laptop lid so as to avoid any scratches, etc. She could not be more gentle with this unit yet it appears that it will break with the slightest touch. This is inexcusable for a mobile computing device.
Samsung has rejected any responsibility for the poor quality of their product design so now I will have to spend over 0 to repair a 0 3-month old Laptop. This is very dissapointing and, given Samsung's indiference, it will be the last Samsung product I buy.

Sony VAIO VGN-AW310J/H 18.4-Inch Laptop - Gray

#1: Sony VAIO VGN-AW310J/H 18.4-Inch Laptop - Gray Reviews!

>>>>See More Details & Check Price Now!<<<<<

I purchased this computer 3 weeks ago and so far I have no major complaints! It's fast, I use it to game (world of warcraft) as well as photo editing. It zooms through these with ease!

The two things I would complain about are trivial and inherent in a laptop. One, the screen. It's very bright and not good for editing photos (even toned down it has issues). I had assumed as much and planned on getting an external monitor. The color is wonderful for gaming and other things however. If you plan on using it for photo editing you will want a different monitor. That said, it is a VERY nice LCD screen.

The other is the spots for usbs, external speakers, and the power supply input. I think those are more a matter of preference. I tend to hook mine up to multiple things and use a USB hub so it's not a huge deal.

Those are the only things I could even try to complain about, and IMO those are very, very trivial and subject to user preference. I bought 2 external hard drives for my photos.

The built in speakers sound pretty good for a laptop. If you leave it open a lot you might find that the metal grate/grill thing over the speakers likes dust. Not a big deal.

It is a HUGE laptop so I wouldn't recommend it if you are traveling a lot and want something light and portable.

Battery life is kind of weak but that's to be expected of such a large laptop, the screen is huge. I keep it plugged in most of the time. It lasts about 2.5 hours for me without the plug.

Excellent but short-lived.... - A. Hoeft - Washington, DC USA
I have loved my Acer and wish I could give it five stars. Its processing power has been plenty for all my uses, and my full-sized hunk of a laptop hasn't left the closet since I got this guy. Keyboard is big enough for normal typing, it's nice and lightweight, and looks great.

I would have loved to give this guy five stars, except that it has some cheap hardware that has caused consistent problems for many users, including myself. And it doesn't take very long for the problems to crop up.

For my computer specifically, I have one major and one minor complaint:

MAJOR PROBLEM: cheap connection between computer and screen is already starting to fail. Only four months into its life, the screen went completely green after flickering a few times earlier in the day. The computer itself was running great; it hadn't crashed and I was able to log off using the keyboard shortcuts (I could hear the logoff sound).

The screen started working again, and for the past two months, I've gotten occasional flickering and my webcam "connects" and "disconnects" constantly throughout the day, another indicator that the connection from the monitor is failing.

I've owned it for seven months now, and I'm concerned it won't even last a year before the screen's connection fails for good. And considering the cheap price, I doubt the cost to fix it is going to be worthwhile! I'm really worried.

Minor problem: the latch at the bottom of the netbook that keeps the battery locked into place is extremely loose and unlocks often, making the battery slide out...bad if you're off wired power.

This is my 2nd laptop. My first was a 2006 HP DV5063CL, back when the quality control dropped, but they still had a good reputation. I love this laptop. Fast, well equipped and has a great keyboard. I have always used a USB plug-in keyboard on my HP so that I had numeric keys available without the Num Lock gyrations. Well, the Satellite has a built in numeric keyboard. The touch of the keys is pleasing as well. I not only don't need my keyboard, I don't want it either.

My only complaint is the lack of quality in the speakers. They sound tinny. Even with all drivers updated. Their volume is not that great either. My HP laptop had Altec Lansing speakers, and sounded much better than the S5988.

Still, speakers are a minor point. I will use external speakers at home, or a USB sound D/A converter with the external speakers, or headphones at home and when I am out.

Amazing Machine - Rick Rodriguez -
I got my new L505-S5988 a little over a week ago. I am very impresseed on how it handles many tasks in Windows 7 with no lag at all. This machine is quiet, and very cool even after hours of use. The full keboard is a nice touch and the screen is very bright and clear. The only negatives I have on this laptop is the speakers while an impressive size for a laptop they sound quite tinny. Besides that it is a fingerprint magnet. Overall with an external pair of speakers and a microfiber cloth and this is a dream machine!!!

I looked at several brands of netbook before deciding on the Lenovo. I am very happy with my decision. While the keyboard is slightly smaller than other 10" netbooks, it is certainly usable with a little adjustment (I am a touch-typer). The only bothersome oddity is the right shift key, as others have mentioned. That being said, the feel of the keyboard is much better than others in my opinion. In addition a new model is out now (the S10-2) with a better keyboard layout.

The place where the Lenovo shines above others, in my opinion, is in its fit and finish. Others seem to lack the attention to detail that this model has. For example, the keyboard on the HPs (I saw this several times) is mounded up on the left side and the shiny plastic over the screen is rippled. Annoying. And a lot of times the Asus keyboards registered false (or no) keystrokes. The MSI Winds like to tip over backwards. But the Lenovo is pretty solidly built, and it looks tastefully subdued like a good business machine should. Pretty nice if that's your thing.

I found that it's processor and hard drive are plenty fast for me even with "only" 1 GB of RAM installed. But I'm not a gamer and don't care to watch videos on it, so I don't really push the limits. The screen is pretty nice and is the full 1024x600.

The model I received included the Splash Top quick boot OS. This allows you to boot an appliance-like OS which has a browser (a rebranded and stripped down Firefox 2) a media player and a few other tools. It's nice but it disables features like plugins for the browser, or the ability to download files, so there are limits to what you can do with it. Great if you want to check news & weather or quickly get directions on the way out the door.

If you're interested, here's how the hard drive was partitioned: 115 GB primary partition formatted FAT32 contained the Windows XP OS. I'm pretty sure FAT32 was chosen instead of the newer NTFS because it allows Splash Top to access media files you have obtained and stored using Windows. A second 30 GB partition formated NTFS shows up as drive D: in Windows, and there is a 3rd partition (hidden in Windows) used to store disk images for the One Key Restore system.

I wanted to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix, but the manual advises not to mess with the 115 or 15 GB partitions because it may cause the One Key Restore to stop working. So I decided to use part of the 30 GB partition to install Ubuntu. This actually seems to work out pretty well because Ubuntu has no problem easily accessing the FAT32 main partition natively. So you can store all your music, movies, photos and working files on this large partition and use them either in Windows or Ubuntu. Makes for a pretty good setup.

The install of Ubuntu was painless. Just follow the instructions on the Ubuntu site and it does pretty much the rest for you. Networking, sleep and hibernate, screen brightness and volume and all the other function keys worked without having to do any tweaking. Only the internal mic needs some help to get working, but instructions are available if you look for them on the web. The nice think about UNR is that it makes really good use of the limited screen area on these smaller computer. It also boots faster than Windows and seems generally snappier.

I would certainly recommend this model to anyone in the market for a netbook.

This is a well made laptop - it is not real fast, but it is real inexpensive. - It has a ton of hard disk - the keyboard is small enought that I some times mistype but it runs big applications from my recliner and I mess with it 2 to 4 hours a day.

I love this laptop (or notebook) so much I had to write a review, which is kind of difficult as there are so many sites and listings to choose from. This listing most closely reflects the actual specs of my laptop.

The main reason I chose it was the ddr3 motherboard, which I am hopeing to be able to upgrade in a year or so. Right now it performs exceptionally well in all areas but one. Of course graphics are going to be limited in a computer with no dedicated graphics card. The shared memory graphics are just fine and I am able to do all but the most rigorous applications. For example, I am able to play DDO at 'very high' graphics, though it runs better at 'high' graphics. The screen allows for 720 HD video playback.

The keyboard is very nice. Beveled edges make typing a breeze. The touchpad is wonderful. I could not really imagine anything more smooth and slick to use. It zipps across the screen and responds to the lightest touch.

The speakers are a little (lot) weak, but it is a laptop, whatever. I use headphones. Nice volume controls on the main panel above the keyboard (touch). The One-Key backup utility is nice, though I imagine I will not use it, as it is very stable and McAfee seems to keep everything malignant in order. I have had only a couple of blurps and these were wimpy little adware items.

I would like to see a higher screen refresh rate option (Hz) such as 75 or 85 or 90, etc. But, if you are looking for a super duper deal, get something more expensive. I was looking for a cheap computer and found this one. I plan on spending my money on building my home computer. This is just a portable, light, wonderful machine for doing things on the fly and getting my business done, like looking for a job (ha).

So, thank you Lenovo (China) and may you always prosper and deliver the goods.

I want to be clear that I am selling mine (currently) because I no longer need to be away from home for work reasons. I want to state that first so that there's no conflict of interest.

Personally, I found it really handy. I was working full time and going to school for a Master's Degree. The UMPC is light and it let me take notes for class directly on the handouts for class. It was light enough that I could carry it every day and it can easily get on the net.

Here's a tip: if you keep the file size down, it will help the speed a lot. I had a ton of massive files that I needed to work with and it still did the job fine for me, but it's not going to be as fast as a home computer.

I bought this for my youngest daughter who needed a laptop for High School Debate. What a world huh? Laptops have become an indispensable and back saving tool for getting and storing debate evidence and arguments. Her coach is not thrilled about Netbooks, but my oldest son recently bought one (as it is easier for his daily train commute), and had very high praises, so after looking and thinking about it I decided to get the Dell Mini.

What I figured was the big down side was the lack of an optical drive, but I figured well, it has USB ports so I'll just hook up my external DVD writer, and she'll be in business. Unfortunately, Dell in a smart business move but bad consumer relations idea, put no DVD encoder in the unit, and directs you to pay for an encoder. Or, one assumes, if you get the add on DVD unit for the Mini, from Dell (for about 0) one assumes that will take care of that. But here's my deal on that, for the extra money I could have just got her what the coach wanted her to have in the first place.

All in all, it has been working all right for her, and the light weight is a big plus. Several software companies, have accommodating downloads just use the license key on the software disk to activate (for example MS Office 2007), and Kapersky even makes an internet security suite specifically for "Ultra-Portables".

The Netbook has a very good wireless pick-up, it works at any location in the house, which is more than I can say about some of my other devices that were a lot more expensive.

So here's the deal, I'm sold (at least for now) , but not overjoyed (yet).

Almost OK - Stefani Christensen - Lakewood, WA,
Bought the IM 10 with TV tuner. The touchpad makes me want to scream. The only time the mouse will follow my fingers (for 5-10 seconds) is if I spit on them. Dell owes a fix and an explanation to consumers. The TV Tuner does a poor job of picking up video signals. Out of 5, 4 were local religious stations. I was surprized by the weight of the battery. Certainly not a laptop to hold in one hand. Still exploring for the pros and hope I have discovered all the cons.

This is a cool little netbook for a young kid. My son loves it and I have to make him put it down. I give it a high rating with the exception of the parental controls. Sinces its Windows XP and IE 7 the controls are limited so I am using a trial version of NetNanny.

Other than that I would highly recommend the product but parents need to be a little computer savvy to setup.

HP Pavilion DV7-3065DX 17.3-Inch Refurbished Laptop with Blu-Ray - Black

>>>>See More Details & Check Price Now!<<<<<

It was right before Christmas when I bought this laptop and what caught my eye was the price considering everything you get for the price.

First of all the screen is a whopping 17.3 inch widescreen with an awsome color display. On top of the display is an integrated webcam with microphone which I have used from time to time without any problems. Just below the unit are the controls for power, sound, media controls and WIFI. The only button really is the power all of the other buttons are touch sensitive. Just below this you will find the speakers which are decent however the quality could be better but I am satisified for what I do with this laptop. Below the speakers is the full keyboard with numeric keypad just to the right and below this is the touch mouse pad. On the back of the monitor you will find a lighted HP logo and just below that you will find the removable battery.

On the left side of the laptop you will find the following ports...
External Video Connector
HDMI Connector
RJ 45Ethernet port (10/100)
eSATA Connector
2 USB Ports
A notebook expansion Port (which holds the remote for controlling the CD and windows media)
A integrated SD-MS/ProMMC/XD Reader

On the right side of the laptop you will find the following ports...
Power Connection
Locking mechanism
RJ11 Modem port
2 USB ports
Blu-Ray DVD Drive & Burner

On the front of the display you will find indication lights for the power, battery and hard drive and connections for connecting external headphone and a microphone.

After I purchase my unit I upgraded some of the components and actually replaced the 500GB hard drive with two 250 solid state drive which reduced the weight and temperature just a bit but the drives allows Windows to boot now in less that 15 seconds! I also upgraded the memory to 8GB and Windows 7 from the Home version to the Ultimate version.

This laptop works great for what I do which is studying (why I chose the large display), Internet & email, music, visual studio programming and from time to time I will watch a movie. I have not had any problems with the unit since I bought it, to me it does just what I need.

This is a very big laptop and you may have some challenges with weight, heat and finding an adequate bag to carry everything in and because I do significate traveling I wanted something close to what I have at home and this is very close and allows me to work, study or play very comfortly.

Remember laptops tend to be items where personal values dictate your needs so this may not be the unit for you. Also because these are mechanical devices you can experience problems while others do not so I always recommend dealing with a company that will stand behind their product.

Would I recommend you purchase this laptop? No, this is a decision that you must make.

HP Pavilion DV7-3065DX 17.3-Inch Refurbished Laptop with Blu-Ray - Thomas J. Agar - Port Huron, MI. USA
I was very dissapointed to find out AFTER I bought this unit that you cannot play a Blu-Ray movie and show it on a large screen TV. It plays fine on the laptop monitor. Windows 7 takes a bit to get used to from Win XP and HP loaded it up with too many garbage programs. Otherwise the unit is OK...not great. I would have been better off spending 0 less on a laptop and getting a independant BD player.

I'd never heard of MSi - before browsing online for a laptop a couple months ago, but must say I am very impressed with the quality of this little laptop! It's nicer than the 00 Dell I use at the office.

At 12", this computer was the perfect size for me. I was underwhelmed by the traditional 10" netbooks when I tried them out at a local retailer - screen was too small for me, and I didn't care for the cramped keyboard. Nor the Windows 7 starter edition or slow CPU.

Enter the MSi U230 - I've got the single core AMD Neo MV-40, but rarely ever notice any slow down. I would have spent the additional for the dual core version, but it wasn't released yet when I bought my computer (it's still hard to find from most online retailers!).

Pros:

-Faster CPU compared to traditional netbooks with Intel Atom chip
-Windows 7 Home Premium (runs fast)
-2 gb Ram, upgradeable to 4 gb (I did this on a whim, wasn't really necessary as Ram doesn't max out at 2 gb most of the time)
-Full sized keyboard makes typing easy with little frustration
-1366x768 resolution, lots of space for desktop icons, web browsing, watching videos
-SD card slot, webcam, 3 usb connectors
-ultraportable size and weight (but you don't get a cd/dvd drive - I suggest picking up an external one)

Cons:

-4 hour battery life as advertised is a stretch
-Won't perform as well as larger, dual core CPUs notebooks

In reference to battery life, it's advertised as 4 hours but I've found around 3 hours is more realistic. However, you can undervolt the CPU by about 20%, without losing any performance. I get stable performance at 0.85v at 8x and 0.70v at 4x using RMClock. Doing so I've stretched the battery life to over 4 hours with light computer tasks (running spreadsheets, web browsing, etc.).

Overall I highly recommend this laptop, especially if you are just looking for a laptop to compliment a desktop system, and aren't happy with traditional netbooks.

MSI U230-033US 12.1-Inch Netbook - 4 Hour Battery Life Features

  • 1.6GHz AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 Processor; Chipset AMD RS690 + SB600
  • 2GB System Memory (4GB Max)

I am more of a Mac user usually, but I need a windows machine occasionally, and this is far and away the best piece of hardware I have ever had (in case you wonder, I also have a thinkpad X200 and macbook pros of all sizes). The hardware spec is very similar to the last generation of macbook pro (same graphics card, similar CPU), but this is a 3lb machine, vs a 6lb mbp). The SSD is blazingly fast, the machine never gets even slightly warm (despite the fact that I usually run a number of CPU hogs on it), the keyboard is amazingly comfortable (It has a similar chicklet layout to the MBP keyboard), the screen is phenomenal (by contrast, the Thinkpad screen is much too dim). I am sure there is a bit of bloatware, but I don't notice it (256GB is a lot of bits), and the default browser is Chrome. Windows 7 is the most usable Windows release yet, which may or may not be saying much.

To comment on another review: I am very much a unix person, but if you want to run unix on a laptop, just get a mac, and certainly DO NOT get a sony. Sony has always made slightly incompatible hardware (I got my first Sony ultraportable in the late 1990s -- same problems). That said, I have NEVER had a linux laptop which ran properly (Thinkpads, Dells, Acer, you name it). Power management is always goofy, the display drivers are always a little off, etc, etc. Run linux at home/work, and use a vnc client to connect, if linux is that important to you. Every single old unix hack I know carries a mac (that includes some of the fathers of the open source movement) -- essentially every useful piece of linux software runs (sometimes better) under OSX.

Anyway, giving two stars to the Vaio because it is not a unix box is like giving two stars to your ferrari because it won't go offroad (or conversely, to your landrover because it can't keep up with a mustang GT from a light). Use the right tool for the job.

An excellent lightweight, but fully capable laptop - Cincinnatus - Fayetteville NC
This is my third "Z-series" Sony Vaio (I previously owned a VGN-SZ750N which replaced an earlier VGN-SZ680N).

The VPC-Z116GX/S is awesome. Its lighter, faster and with Windows 7 64-bit Professional it just snaps along.

The smaller form-factor screen with its much higher resolution over that of the VGN-SZ series takes some getting used to.

I use this (like I used the others) for work and play (I travel a lot) and it is a perfect balance between portability (weight and size) and power for me.

The first impression is its nice appearance. I've never had any netbooks before but this product from sony is quite satisfactory. The speed is acceptable. Still some people argued with the windows 7 starter edition but I would say it's designed for light computing and web surfing and it actually does a good job on these things. If you are looking for a second pc (or laptop) and this one might fit your need. However if you expect it for primary use then it might disappoint you. To share my personal use, I have a mac desktop at home and that serves as my primary computer. And when I go outside I only bring this little tiny creature with me. As long as the internet access is available I can always connect back to my home desktop and use some remote desktop to do whatever heavy tasks on the main computer. And if you really dislike windows, I'd recommend you to try ubuntu, a free linux os. I'm currently having dual systems on this vaio and honestly I'm on ubuntu most of the time. The system interface is neat and very efficient in doing those less heavy things. Also if you're worried about whether one GB RAM is enough to run win 7, using ubuntu can definitely be a nice alternative.

Buyer Beware: Flimsy Junk - Dr. R. W. Mehler - Los Angeles, CA
More flimsy junk from Sony. They used to be a good company but now produce expensive landfill material.

Beware: Sony is very very stingy about fixing their flimsy junk under warranty. They do not stand behind their products like better companies. Also note that when trying to contact customer support, they ONLY provide a phone number, no email or even street address, and they will NEVER put anything into writing. When your Sony trash fails, all that happens is endless circular conversations with useless minimum-wage customer service children who have no authority to do anything.

Only buy this or other Sony junk if you enjoy burning hundred dollar bills.

This is a great computer. I love it. its nice and light but not too small and is fairly fast. I have only one thing I was disappointed about. Bluetooth. When i bought this computer I expected it but there is no bluetooth installed. There is even a button to turn it on, but its not there. when you press the button a little icon comes up, like when you turn the volume up or down or turn off or on the wifi, but it always has a red X like saying that you turned it off, but it never says on, only off. bummer.

Soooooo much better than I expected! - Mr. L. D. Newvell -
I use this laptop for writing but it can also handle games too. I've used it for SWG and Silent Hunter 4 and the graphics are excellent. I'm not sure how it would do with more recent games but I'm sure it could handle most games well. Startup is very quick. Built in wifi and webcam are excellent features too! Battery lasts up to 4hrs on power saver, maybe 2hrs on the performance setting. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this buy!

I sold my T41 with XSVGA for this. I wanted something I could also use to read/research on train, or cafe. This laptop does it well. And the screen re-orients whenever you move it from tablet to laptop configuration, and visa versa. However, it's still a bit slow (like most tablets). I think Lenovo has done as good a job as possible, but the technology still has a way to go. Weight, speed, integration of apps, all must be improved for these to become killer machines.

I knew the machine will be limiting when I bought it. But for me, the ability to read in tablet form is very important. I don't like the aesthetic experience of reading on computers.

I'm left-handed. Which means the handwriting recognition is not so good for me. For a right-handed friend of mine, the handwriting recognition works great. (for me, it's either frustrating or humorous, depending on my mood).

In general, the microsoft software and help files specific to tablets are dated and obviously not a high priority at Microsoft. If it was, you'd have better left-hand support. Also, there are few tablet-specific apps bundled with machine. The few that are, are third party trial-ware.

In conclusion, if you want a tablet to read/research, surf the net, and also use as a laptop for basic business chores, this is as nice a tablet as I think you'll find. But if you expect this to be the tablet that fulfills the promise of tablet-PCs, then no, I don't think we're there yet. And the price is also too high if what you mostly want is a laptop.

  • The ThinkPad X Series Tablet is the ultimate convertible notebook

As a testament to the reliability of the NC10 I thought i would post this.
My wife is hooked on facebook, and spends all evening every evening tending her farm. The NC10 has spent every night 5hrs+ for well over a year running on battery and has never missed a beat.
Personally i think everyone should try one before comitting to a netbook. The screen is too small to display a web page properly, with the wrong aspect ratio. And typing on the keyboard is a challenge for fat fingered folk like me.
I just got rid of a 10" dell and will probaly try the iPad for a bit before moving back to a "proper" notebook.
But my wife likes her NC10 and thats whats important.

This is now previous generation model. I got it for well under 0. I still highly recommend it.

BTW, I upgraded mine to 2gig.

Pros
* Excellent lcd color and brightness
* Best in class netbook keyboard. Similar to apple's chiclet keyboard. Nice feel and keydepth for the smaller than standard key. Really like arrowpad layout.
* Feels quite durable
* I actually like how 6-battery sticks out the back, acts as a handle to hold on to when using the computer, standing up draped over your forearm.
* Neato HDD shake protection with 3D sensor. When you shake it the hard drive moves the arm to safe area. You can watch hdd applet shows the hard drive arm and orientation as you rotate the netbook.
* Good wifi range. I get noticeably better wifi signal detection on this than my other laptops.
* Big touchpad (note in cons, bottom touchpad unusable)
* Lighted power button below screen acts as keyboard light (which could also be a con, I like it)
* I like startup/shutdown time, less than half minute -- first time it may be slower, as windows 7 configures the system. 5 second sleep/wake time.
* Includes bluetooth, which is no longer included in current gen

Cons
* Tiny single speaker. Out of the box, it's only ok for windows beep noises. You can make it usable loud by turning on "loudness equalization" from control panel>Sound settings>Realtek HD driver
* touchpad is not usable at the bottom 3/4 inch. It looks and feel likes touchpad, but your scrolling and pointer will just stop before touching the buttons. A shame, that the touchpad isn't as big as it looks.
* no multitouch touch pad that current gen touchpads support. But AFAIK, Windows 7 starter does not support multitouch anyway.
* typical bloatware. chuck it.
* no screen rotation. I could not find a way to activate hardware screen rotation to use it vertically like a ebook reader. I tried registry hack, freeware hardware rotation util, googling, nothing. I wonder if linux intel drivers are capable of rotation? Anyway, as a satisfactory work around I use foxit pdf reader and fbreader ebook (epub) reader, both of which have software screen rotation and full screen feature that makes this an ebook reader (nb: can't read drm books).
* No wifi N. But when would you really want to use N speed on a netbook? Not like you are going to be hard core gaming or streaming HD videos to it.
* How do I create and restore system backup without DVD? I'm hoping I can do it from a usb stick.

Misc
* Windows 7 Starter is fine by me. The main complaint seems to be about lack of wallpaper customization. Big whoop. When I'm working on my laptop I'm not looking at my wallpaper. I put the picture gadget to put in the center of the desktop. If you want to use it as a digital photo frame, use the photo screensaver. Done.
* Non HD videos only. All my 720x480 DVD and TV shows run fine. Once you get to 720 line videos (which won't fit on a 600 line screen anyway), the CPU is chocking. Goes without saying, serious gaming is a no go.
* Battery life around 6.5 hours, I'm a heavy user, using lots of multimedia, loaded 10 programs. I upgraded 2gig, bright screen.
* Charge from 5% to 100% in 4 hours.
* Suspend mode uses 1 watt. Normal use is 10 to 15 watts. Except when I transport it, I usually keep mine on suspend mode instead of shutting down.
* For videos I downloaded the CCCP codec/video pack

Note
* Upgrade your webcam software from panasonic support site. It's much better.
* Upgrade HDD driver from Panasonic support site, the machine shuts down faster

I've had the GO for about a month now and couldn't be more pleased with it. It does what I want and expect it to do AND it's small enough I can carry it to work in my lunch box if I want.
After clearing out or cleaning up some of the minimal pre-loaded software and downloading a couple of free-ware programs to help keep things in order, it has run flawlessly. At work, I wake it up, it powers up in just a few seconds, instantly recognizes the wireless connection and patiently waits for me to do whatever. Have not had any issues with the smaller keyboard, navigation (although a wireless mouse would probably make it easier for some folks), or the display. Battery life has been phenomenol. Right out of the box I tried to run the battery all the way down but after 2 days still over 20% remaining. Now at the end of the day I usually still have over 80% remaining.
I'm not going to hang a lot of accessories on this netbook because I want it to remain portable to the max. I am however thinking of getting a Bluetooth GPS unit for it to use on trips and such. Right now, for the programs I want installed (my planner, financial, word processing, and a couple of specialized programs), the stock memory is more than enough. I use a USB thumbdrive to transfer stuff to another computer if I need to.
So, overall a great little machine in my opinion. Looks good, solidly built from what I can tell, and it does what it is supposed to do.
I will also add that Amazon has been great through the whole process - ordering, shipping, tracking, etc, so thanks to them.

Pleasantly surprised - L. Kovacs - Mohegan Lake NY. USA
Fast booting, well performing little netbook. So far flawless. Actually did not excpect it to be that fast. I find it a very useful, well designed little machine. WLan, so far great. Easy to configure. No problems with anything so far. (Own it, and use it every day, for almost two months now)
Love the shape and the texture of the case. Battery capacity is great, as advertised. Prices are coming down so shop around. Happily recommend it.
