I've owned this item for ~2yrs now. It replaced a 14" Averatec laptop (AMD-2200M) and feels zippier than it for practically all applications. It's also *much* more portable! I chose it primarily to support my photography when travelling -- it has a large hard drive I can use to free up my memory cards, and a decent display that I can use to review my pictures. In this role, I've been exceedingly pleased with this product.

The keyboard is excellent, and I was immediately able to touch-type on it at full speed. The matte display is also a plus, as it is much more readable outside. The wireless is better at getting and holding a signal than any laptop I've owned before or since.

My main complaint is that the touchpad is very sensitive and small, and especially under Ubuntu, I find that I am frequently clicking when I meant to drag-scroll. The screen resolution is lower than I'd like, making web surfing a little less enjoyable, and it struggles to play hulu full-screen, but I was aware of this going in.

The unit is still running solidly, and I'm still getting ~5+hrs of battery life on the original.

I supplemented this unit with 2G of memory and an external DVD writer. I'd recommend these accessories as well, as they improve the usability of the netbook.

If you're looking for a netbook and are aware of the limitations incurred by its form factor, in my opinion the nc10 still represents many of the best-in-class design decisions for this product category.

Samsung NC10 totally worths it! - Purple Skirt -
This is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I have always loved technology and comfort. I travel with this everyday... I use it daily -intensely- and I have had no problem at all... Played with it for more than a year!

I expanded the memory for 2Gb and works nice...
For other lap's I've always noticed that the letters in the keyboard disappear for my level of wear. This keyboard is intact!

I received this computer as a holiday gift. These are some of the features I found most amazing about the T4220.

- Shock Censor Utility: If you drop your computer, the internal memory and hard drive contract, assuring less memory loss. It automatically detects when it is falling and adjusts accordingly. You can set this to Sensitive, Normal, Mobile, or Custom.

- OmniPass: Have to remember lots of passwords to different websites and accounts? Not anymore. With OmniPass and the T4220 Fujitsu notebook, you can set all of your different passwords to either one master password or a fingerprint. I liked this especially because when I go to different websites where I have an account like Hotmail, Amazon, eBay, Facebook, or Myspace, a prompt asks me to scan my fingerprint and then it inputs my password for me.

- Windows Vista: The T4220 notebook comes with Windows Vista Basic. I think that this version is fine for just normal notebook purposes, but you can always upgrade the software to fit your needs.

- 180 degree Screen: This notebook is a tablet notebook. This means that you can fold the screen down and write on it with the included pen. This notebook can fold either right or left and has easy to understand lights to tell you which way to turn it back to normal. This works especially well with the included Evernote Plus, which translates your hastily scribbled notes into Microsoft Word text. Now you can take notes and have them all on one device.

- Built in WiFi: With my old computer, a Dell Latitude D505, I got no bars of WiFi in the corners of my house. However, with this notebook with built in WiFi, I got as many bars in the corner of my house as I did with my old computer sitting next to the router. There is also a slot to put in a WiFi card if you have a special card, but the built in is so good, I don't see why you would need an additional one.

- Speakers and Sound: The sound quality of this computer is absolutely amazing. It truly sounds as if you are in a stadium or concert hall. You can also change the speaker settings based on the environment that you are in. They are perfect for DVDs or music.

Overall, I give this computer a five out of five based on performance, design, difficulty of use, and already included features. If you are looking for a Microsoft computer, I strongly recommend this one.

Just got this netbook a few days ago and I must say, out of the box, it's pretty disappointing. First off, Windows 7 Starter. This computer was not meant to be used with this extremely limited os. You're definitely going to want at least Home Premium in order to get Optimus (automatic graphics switching) working. Second, only 1gb of ram. I don't think I really need to explain why this is a shortcoming.

Good thing I already had my Windows 7 upgrade from my old laptop. First thing I did was a clean install of Windows 7 Premium in order to get rid of all the asus bloatware and get Optimus working. First of all, this computer plays excellent video out of the box. You'll read lots of hardcore PC people grumbling about the exclusion of a true HD screen, but I honestly saw no problem with the current screen, considering how small it is.

Installed Firefox (my web browser of choice) and kept getting hang ups on this computer. Firefox has become quite a resource hog over the years (this is the price you pay for top-notch extensions). Decided that I really needed to upgrade the ram on this to its max (2gigs). Installed the new ram and now this computer is absolutely great. Did a non-scientific test run with the battery with normal web browsing and quite a bit of video watching. The battery lasted about 6-7 hours before hitting 5% capacity.

Installing the extra ram was a real problem, in my opinion. There's a little plug on the bottom and under it is a single screw to get access to the ram. It all looks nice and simple at first, but then you spin the screw and realize that only that one edge with the screw pushes up. You can pull at the little door but it doesn't budge. I had to take my little flathead screwdriver, along with a huge leap of faith with my brand new computer, and slowly work my way around the door, hoping it would completely unhinge at some point and pop off. The door felt like it came crazy close to snapping in half at a couple points but then I managed to work it off. Taking a look at the bottom half of the door explains the situation much more clearly. Asus, for some inexplicable reason, has decided to put unnecessarily tight teeth on every side of it to hold it in place on the computer. They could have done great with hooks on one side and screws on the other, like most laptops. So modders beware! Prepare for extreme fear, and possible hardware breakage, if you decide to upgrade that ram. I'm actually kind of glad the ram is maxed out at 2gb, because that means I'll never have to take that door off ever again.

Overall, this computer is awesome out of the box for a light user, but is also an excellent base if you're looking for a fairly powerful netbook and are willing to invest a little extra into it.

UPDATE: This computer HATES firefox. It's been running better since I upgraded the ram, but I still get quite a few hangups. I'd recommend Chrome or Opera, these browsers show no such problems. Also, buyers should probably know that this netbook, with its increased horsepower and small footprint, overheats like crazy. Picked up a Thermapak heatshift pad and this thing works wonders, but don't expect to be running HD videos non-stop for hours unless you're in an ice cold room.

Straight out of the box this machine is amazing! It comes with windows 7 starter which I hated, but unless you know what you are doing I don't recommend removing it. I actually wiped the OS and put on it Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit, which caused some issues. If you are going to upgrade make sure you have a flash drive with all the drivers from Asus's site on it and install them before getting on the internet, otherwise your video card will keep crashing and you will get blue screens and then your computer will restart. So after upgrading and putting on all the drivers from the Asus site, this machine works like a charm. Plays 1080p video great, plays HD youtube videos great, I'm glad I waited the extra couple months to get this!
