Asus Eee PC 1005HAB Netbook - Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz / 10.1" WXGA / 1GB DDR2 / 160GB HD / Webcam / Windows XP Home

#1: Asus Eee PC 1005HAB Netbook - Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz / 10.1" WXGA / 1GB DDR2 / 160GB HD / Webcam / Windows XP Home Reviews!

I bought this netbook for my son for college (no DVD so limited to no gaming). I ended up trading him for my (ugh!) Compaq Vista notebook that has a slightly stronger wi-fi card. I hated the fact that Vista required me to learn all new versions of my software. Microsoft really f***ed up there. OK I didn't expect much from this 9 computer, BUT I WAS WRONG. Running in full screen mode much of the time I really had little adjustment to make. It's running all of my XP software including Photoshop, MSOffice, that I am a "power-user" on and hated to give up for Vista pointless versions. There isn't a software yet that I haven't been able to load and run as well if not better than other machines with DVDs. I keep all my software setup files on a "setup" external drive anyway for ease of restoration purposes so the lack of DVD is nothing. The startup and close-down time is remarkable compared to all the other computers I have ever used. Plus, I download movies from Netflix really well. I use it for email and all things online, plus word processing, spreadsheets, database, raw image processing, quick jpg image processing and upload, embroidery digitizing and the list goes on and on. If you liked using your XP programs and the only thing wrong was that your laptop died, try using this netbook for a while. The I/O are limited, so no parallell or serial or anything like that. 3 USB ports are good. There is a little learning curve with the smaller screen size, but the gains on the software FAR OUTWEIGH any inconvenience you might feel while getting the screen adjusted to your liking. I was considering upgrading my hardrive, but I see that it's an internal thing with controller cable and not a simple screwdriver/plug in thing - so probably not. I don't seem to need any addtional RAM yet so - for 9 I'm really set. Usually I pay almost that much for the extended warranty that hardly works on those bigger notebooks. I hope it lasts. And if it doesn't, well I'll just fork out another 9 on a similar model to compare. I'll admit, it was a Best Buy on sale item. You can pay a little more for more ram, bigger hard drive or Windows 7 if that's your thing.

Good one - marq -
Everything was as expected, but the battery. It's specs says that battery should last something around 6-8 hour. But it only lasts 2-3 hour.

Anything else is very fine. Good processor, good HD, enough memmory. I'm very happy with my new toy.
