I bought this computer in January 2008 and sold it yesterday-June 2009. It came with a duo core processor and 1 gb of Ram. I purchased an additional 1 GB of RAM and had it installed. This computer is great for the price! Let me tell you that I use and abuse computers and this one held out! The major obstacle you will have is getting Vista to work properly. To get it going you have to reduce Vista to minimal settings and take off all the extra malware that it comes with. After this it works like a charm. I used it during two years of college and it went through major abuse but it held in there playing games, itunes, and all sorts of downloads. I bought it on sale from Best Buy for 400 dollars and sold it yesterday for 300 dollars on craigslist because people like the duo core that works well and runs itunes, bf2, bf1942, MS Word and Autocad like a charm. And if you are having problems with your ipod you need to update itunes or replace the firewire cable. Trust me, often it is just the apple firewire cable. I'm no apple wiz but after blaming my Toshiba for not detecting my ipod I began to suspect my firewire and bought a new one from Apple and the itunes loaded in a sec.

One Note:
For the laptop and technically challenged - Anti-Virus software and IE8 bog down your system. Remove it and back up your sensitive data on an external hard drive and run Vista on minimal settings and it will run super fast.

Also: it over heats if you keep it on a blanket or a table and run it for hrs. and hrs. like I did and then automatically shuts off so invest in a cooling fan. Heat is the enemy of all electrical components.

HIGHLY SATISFIED!!! I bought my refurbished from MawishInc for about 5 months ago and it has been amaizing. I'm surprised that the price on this item just keeps on getting lower and lower. I got mine with 1gb of ram but I upgrade it to 2gb and it's a super fast computer. Much faster then any of my vista computers with more ram and ghz. The monitor is small on today's HD stuff, but the graphics card is amazing. Mine can go up to 1920x1200 with no lag on any monitor. With my shipment, I got this item with the charger and all the slots in this item worked, and still works... (thank you MawishInc). I recommend this product. (maybe not used but professionally refurbished).

I sold my T41 with XSVGA for this. I wanted something I could also use to read/research on train, or cafe. This laptop does it well. And the screen re-orients whenever you move it from tablet to laptop configuration, and visa versa. However, it's still a bit slow (like most tablets). I think Lenovo has done as good a job as possible, but the technology still has a way to go. Weight, speed, integration of apps, all must be improved for these to become killer machines.

I knew the machine will be limiting when I bought it. But for me, the ability to read in tablet form is very important. I don't like the aesthetic experience of reading on computers.

I'm left-handed. Which means the handwriting recognition is not so good for me. For a right-handed friend of mine, the handwriting recognition works great. (for me, it's either frustrating or humorous, depending on my mood).

In general, the microsoft software and help files specific to tablets are dated and obviously not a high priority at Microsoft. If it was, you'd have better left-hand support. Also, there are few tablet-specific apps bundled with machine. The few that are, are third party trial-ware.

In conclusion, if you want a tablet to read/research, surf the net, and also use as a laptop for basic business chores, this is as nice a tablet as I think you'll find. But if you expect this to be the tablet that fulfills the promise of tablet-PCs, then no, I don't think we're there yet. And the price is also too high if what you mostly want is a laptop.

Well, I guess I got lucky and got a good one...I absolutely LOVE this laptop! Beautiful design, amazing touch pad, great speakers, fabulous hardware setup, no problems so far....for the price, I'm amazed. No headphone/mic problems with mine. Please don't buy, you will not be satisfied. I have bought HP products for years, but I have had trouble with the last two laptops from them. This one being the worse. I have had trouble from the first month I've had it. It would not power up, took it back to the store and they took the battery out and put it back in and said they didn't see anything wrong with it.(like we're nuts) Then it happened again so we called HP support and they wanted us to take the computer apart to get to the hard drive, I finally told them that was not my job but it was theirs, they finally let me send it back to HP and it was returned 10 days later as being repaired. Not so fast, still doing the same thing only this time I am getting an over heating warning and it completely shutting down. And yes it still goes dark. Hp is fast becoming the Toyota of computers. My suggestion is to buy another brand not associated with HP. That is what I am going to do if I can ever get out of this mess. I have only had this since Nov. 2009 and should not be having problems with it, but even more that that Hp should be willing to let us trade them in, but they are not willing to work with you. Getting ready to send it back again and I'm sure I will be sending again and again in the future!!!
