HP Pavilion DV7-3080US 17.3-Inch Espresso Laptop - Up to 4.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium)

#1: HP Pavilion DV7-3080US 17.3-Inch Espresso Laptop - Up to 4.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium) Reviews!

I have owened this laptop for over a month now. Its extremely quick and never lags no matter what I have open. I can burn a dvd, download a large file, and play a game all at the same time. It will run crysis well at full resolution as well as modern warfare 2. I have read bad revews about the display and honestly its not bad. I think it may be slightly different from the dells because of the type of glossy film they use. Remember this is susposed to be an entertainment pc and for that it is AWSOME. I can watch movies via hdmi in full 1080, just simply plug it in and your ready to go. Battery life is decent for a computer with a quad core. Intel uses turbo boost and I think this helps to keep power down a bit. The touch controls at the top of the keyboard work great and I like them alot. Remember this is a quad core 1.6ghz but with turbo boost it will go up to 2.8ghz. Shows up as 8 cores total. Very efficient processor. Hp's bloatware is really not that bad either. Audio is quite good. The speakers on this laptop sound great and get decent volume as well. Wireless n works great and is very fast. Fan is fairly quiet and it runs very cool.... if its on ur lap it will run hotter but still much cooler then many dual core laptops i have used. Keyboard has a great feel and is quiet. Mouse pad buttons feel great and people seem to complain about the glossy finish on the pad but i think it feels good and works well. The scroll bar on the right of the mousepad also works awsome. Also big plus this has a second drive bay so you could add a solid state boot drive or a standard drive for storage if you like. I think you have to buy a hard drive cradle or something but its a great added bonus. Also this fits well in the Wenger, SwissGear 17 inch back pack.

A few things i dont like is that the power brick is really large, wish it had a lit keybord although this is really not a problem and the screen is really bright so its easy to see the keys plus it uses slightly less power without it. Glossy finish attracts finger prints like crazy but its still pretty. Hp's media smart software could use some work , it takes a long time to open and too much bling just for browsing photos. I made windows picture viewer my default viewer to solve this. I do wish it was full 1080 but its close and i dont think its a big enough difference to notice... blue ray movies still look great!. ... all in all great computer ... makes a great desktop replacement. All the negatives i stated are minor. I very much recommend this laptop. The prices are dropping as well and its just becoming more affordable.

Fast, but too many stupid design flaws - D. D. Martinez -
First and foremost, the large remote control pictured in the Amazon product listing is incorrect. This large remote might actually be comfortable (as it looks ergonomically designed to fit in your hand). Instead, this one ships with the ultra-thin (and therefore really difficult to use) remote that also slides into the expansion PCMCIA bay. Convenient to carry the remote around, but useless to use because the buttons are all just mere tiny bubbles on the flat remote - fine if you use it twice a year to start and stop a presentation, but don't expect this to be your primary media center remote.

Now, to the PC itself: After removing the typical bloatware the thing is actually very fast. DVD authoring and other processes fly by. Wireless network seems strong and it will happily connect to my N-router from the far end of the house without ever dropping down to my G-repeater that is farther down the line. The bad parts about the design (and I consider most to be unforgivable): 1) the HP logo on the outside of the cover is always lit up when the device is awake. EVEN if the screen turns off, the logo stays on. You can forget about leaving your laptop on in a dark room. Another lighting problem, the status lights for charge, wifi, and disk usage are on the FRONT of the unit and shine right at you and they are BRIGHT. Like 1W LED bright. Seriously, you cannot watch a movie with these three lights shinging at you (and of course, they stay on even when the screen goes dark). Lastly, I can hear a bit of noise on the headphone jack even after a song stops. This sounds like either wifi or drive interference because it is fast patterns and intermittent.

Update - Aug 2010: Having now lived with this for 8 months I can say that I hate this laptop. In addition to the design flaws mentioned earlier I can only say that over time the weight and heat of this laptop have really started to bug me. If anyone reading this is (like I was) thinking that bigger is better from a screen perspective, and "how often do I really travel anyway" then think again. This is really, absolutely and truly, just a desktop replacement. Think of it as a desktop machine that is easy to move from your home office to kitchen or living room. It is such a beast that the AC adapter shorts out the in-flight power supply on all Airbus (including A380) and Boeing planes that I have flow on (and there is no way it gets more than 2.5 hours of battery life.

Even if this laptop was half the price I would not buy it again.

I love this laptop, I had to replace my old Dell Inspiron 6000. This one's so much faster, it's got a decent video card (not hardcore for gamers but enough to watch media with real well and even can handle some top divx10 games with really low fps in the low setting), which is why I chose this laptop over a bit faster intel pentium's out with a bit smaller screen for around the same price range. The bonus for this satellite, for me, was the video card along with the extra wide 17.3'' screen. It's pretty stylish and very lightweight too, even smaller then my old inspiron.

WOW - Nathan Ayers - michigan
I love the toshiba satellite line. They are simply the most economical, with the least repair rate, and the most computer. Bought this system for my in-laws @ Xmas who are in love. I spent the same amount for myself last year for a smaller screen, less options, and not quite as pretty. Wish I had simply bought two of them.

I got this for school after my other laptop decided to fall apart on me. i've owned nothing but hp laptops first one had an issue with the power cord and the prongs inside were bent and therefore did not charge well. Second the left hinge broke and there was a recall to the cooling system which fried everything but hp was wonderful and even though i got the laptop from ebay i was still able to get it fixed no cost and took about 2 weeks less than they estimated and the bonus i did not lose any info on my laptop (not important since all was backupped but still great nonetheless. anyways decided to upgrade since the left hinge was not fixed (known problem for this particular laptop. and they fixed all of the above with this laptop. plug is secure and does not wiggle like first laptop, second the hinge is totally different and puts less pressure on the backing which will not cause it to break like second laptop. Excellent computers would highly recommend. I use mine for school work, and had taken coun 503 which required SPSS programming and it worked flawlessly and when i'm not studying for my masters I like to play games on this. reason I got second laptop was because the original owner couldn't get wireless to work and could not play WoW on it. wireless was fixed during recall and i'm not into WoW so not an issue. Great computer and if your a student you can actually get a discount if your school participates which most do. great buy and would buy another hp when this becomes obsolete. My hp desktop works great and it's older! so not sure why the 1 stars on this laptop. Yeah i'm sure there are defective ones, but if you talk to hp (can be annoying talkin to someone who doesn't speak english well and when you tell them "can't power laptop on due to power not getting to my board" and they respond well ma'am we need to knkow what is wrong so you will need to turn it on now is a bit frustrating but after calmly telling the lady it isn't gonna happen for the hundredth time she then said well you will need to send it in and have us look at it to see if it's covered under the recall (hello, your site said my model was, it also gave a description on why it's not working and it fits it perfectly.) but they did correct the problem so yay and as for this laptop no overheating problems, none of the problems i had previously are popping up so far so I am definetely happy with this. got this 10/07/09 so it's been awhile wanted to make sure i had it awhile to see if anything would happen but nothing love it!

HP Pavilion DV7-3065DX 17.3-Inch Refurbished Laptop with Blu-Ray - Black

#1: HP Pavilion DV7-3065DX 17.3-Inch Refurbished Laptop with Blu-Ray - Black Reviews!

>>>>See More Details & Check Price Now!<<<<<

It was right before Christmas when I bought this laptop and what caught my eye was the price considering everything you get for the price.

First of all the screen is a whopping 17.3 inch widescreen with an awsome color display. On top of the display is an integrated webcam with microphone which I have used from time to time without any problems. Just below the unit are the controls for power, sound, media controls and WIFI. The only button really is the power all of the other buttons are touch sensitive. Just below this you will find the speakers which are decent however the quality could be better but I am satisified for what I do with this laptop. Below the speakers is the full keyboard with numeric keypad just to the right and below this is the touch mouse pad. On the back of the monitor you will find a lighted HP logo and just below that you will find the removable battery.

On the left side of the laptop you will find the following ports...
External Video Connector
HDMI Connector
RJ 45Ethernet port (10/100)
eSATA Connector
2 USB Ports
A notebook expansion Port (which holds the remote for controlling the CD and windows media)
A integrated SD-MS/ProMMC/XD Reader

On the right side of the laptop you will find the following ports...
Power Connection
Locking mechanism
RJ11 Modem port
2 USB ports
Blu-Ray DVD Drive & Burner

On the front of the display you will find indication lights for the power, battery and hard drive and connections for connecting external headphone and a microphone.

After I purchase my unit I upgraded some of the components and actually replaced the 500GB hard drive with two 250 solid state drive which reduced the weight and temperature just a bit but the drives allows Windows to boot now in less that 15 seconds! I also upgraded the memory to 8GB and Windows 7 from the Home version to the Ultimate version.

This laptop works great for what I do which is studying (why I chose the large display), Internet & email, music, visual studio programming and from time to time I will watch a movie. I have not had any problems with the unit since I bought it, to me it does just what I need.

This is a very big laptop and you may have some challenges with weight, heat and finding an adequate bag to carry everything in and because I do significate traveling I wanted something close to what I have at home and this is very close and allows me to work, study or play very comfortly.

Remember laptops tend to be items where personal values dictate your needs so this may not be the unit for you. Also because these are mechanical devices you can experience problems while others do not so I always recommend dealing with a company that will stand behind their product.

Would I recommend you purchase this laptop? No, this is a decision that you must make.

HP Pavilion DV7-3065DX 17.3-Inch Refurbished Laptop with Blu-Ray - Thomas J. Agar - Port Huron, MI. USA
I was very dissapointed to find out AFTER I bought this unit that you cannot play a Blu-Ray movie and show it on a large screen TV. It plays fine on the laptop monitor. Windows 7 takes a bit to get used to from Win XP and HP loaded it up with too many garbage programs. Otherwise the unit is OK...not great. I would have been better off spending 0 less on a laptop and getting a independant BD player.
